Yuma Audubon hosts field trips to nearby birding destinations in winter and spring (when the desert heat is absent or still bearable). Most trips are lead by our docent member, Wayne Bowers.
In our recent trips, we visited Cibola National Wildlife Refuge, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Picacho State Recreation Area, Sonny Bono National Wildlife Refuge.
Every winter, we participate in the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count. The tradition first started on December 25, 1900, with 27 observers in 25 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Now tens of thousands people, including YAS members, come together across the hemisphere to count birds as part of one of the longest-running formal citizen science bird survey in history.
